Troubleshooting. You can probably fix the
most common problems before the files even get to us. Here's a
checklist of areas in a document that can create additional, but
avoidable, cost in prepress.
Bleeds. Give us an extra 3/8" off the edge of the page in your page layout program.
Document Size. Don't scale your document. If the final size is 8.5" x 11" then it should be built
8.5" x 11".
Imported EPS Artwork.
Your document will not print correctly without all placed files. (i.e.,
Illustrator and Freehand EPS files or Photoshop TIF files) If your
document was created in PageMaker, please be sure to include all image
files separately from the PageMaker file, even if they're embedded
within the document.
Fonts. Please include all screen and printer fonts. If you're unsure what's what, give us a call.
Also, be sure to include any fonts used in EPS files that have not been converted to outlines.
Scaling and Rotating. It is best to scale or rotate your artwork in Photoshop, not QuarkXPress or PageMaker.
Pantone or Process. If it's a spot color, it's PMS. If it's a process color, it's CMYK. No RGB or LAB files!
Up-Scaling Images.
Don't scale TIF images in your page layout program, do it in Photoshop.
TIF images need to be imported as close to 100% as possible with
minimal scaling (±10%). Optimal resolution for grayscale and CMYK TIF
files is 300dpi at 100%.
Image Formats. We accept EPS, TIF or PDF files.
Blends & Vignettes. This is best if done in Illustrator, Freehand or Photoshop, not QuarkXPress or PageMaker.
